Women in local government
Council is a supporter of the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter.
The Charter is not just about gender equity but focusses on women's diversity and their active citizenship that arises from the partnership between women and local government and women in communities.
The Charter recognises the need for increased women's participation in local government by Council supporting three key principles:
- gender equity
- diversity
- active citizenship.
To encourage women to become involved in local government, Council hosted a number of events during March 2012.
Led by Maroondah’s Women’s Charter Champions, Councillors Nora Lamont and Natalie Thomas, the events offered local residents an opportunity to discover the activities and services provided by local government and what’s involved in becoming a Councillor.
