Traffic signals at the intersection of Bedford Road and Great Ryrie Street

21 March 2017 – update

Due to the rain over the past 48 hours the overnight works to allow the intersection to operate safely have been delayed. It is expected that the traffic signals will now be operational at 10.30am on Thursday 23 March, subject to weather conditions.

A statement from Councillor Tony Dib, Mayor of Maroondah

I’m pleased to advise the Maroondah community that the traffic signals at the intersection of Bedford Road and Great Ryrie Street, Ringwood will be operational at 10.30am on Wednesday 22 March.

This marks the completion of the $1million complex traffic and rail signalisation project, which was fully funded by the Australian Government as part of the Commonwealth Infrastructure Investment Programme – Local Roads Projects.

To support the new signalisation and subsequent change to traffic movements at the intersection, Council can now finalise the civil works, which includes a new asphalt overlay and line marking.

These works will be undertaken as night works to minimise the disruption to traffic, and will take place on the evenings of Sunday 19, Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 March, between the hours of 8pm and 5am. These works will be subject to weather.

Variable Message Sign (VMS) boards are in place from 17 March advising motorists of the final works schedule and the operational date of the new signals.

To assist the school students who will be using the new pedestrian crossing as part of the signalisation works, Council will have a school crossing supervisor at the pedestrian crossing from Wednesday afternoon.

This project has been a high priority for Council and I’m pleased that we have been able to deliver, in association with the Australian Government, improved traffic flow and pedestrian safety at this busy intersection.
