Latest news from Cr Symon

Council is one step closer to reaching our target of being carbon neutral by 2020, with a range of sustainability projects recently completed.

The projects, which included installing an 80kW solar panel system on the roof of Realm, will help to reduce around 15,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade.

This is equivalent to removing more than 300 cars from the road each year for the next 10 years. Other projects include replacing the lighting at our aquatic and leisure facilities, Aquahub and Aquanation, with energy-efficient LED lighting.

Not only are these projects great for the environment, they will also generate an annual saving of $144,764 on energy costs, with every dollar we save going back into improving services and amenities for our community.

Significant actions to reduce greenhouse gases in the short term will also be important to reduce the long term impacts of climate change.
