I have had the pleasure of visiting a number of kindergartens and primary schools lately to celebrate the achievements of our youngest residents.

I was amazed by the children at Ringwood Uniting Church Preschool with their ‘super hero’ capes which helped teach the children about gender equity, while boosting their confidence.

The project, funded as part of Council’s Community Grants initiative, saw each child identify their own strength and design a cape which reflected their choice. It was wonderful to see the children think outside the stereotypical male and female traits.

I also had the privilege of launching a new seat along the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail. The seat features silhouettes representing the role carers play in our community. It was designed in consultation with members of our Pathway for Carers program who will walk past this seat on their weekly organised walks.
