One of my favourite things to do as a Councillor is recognise those people who go over and above to help others in their community.

Earlier this month I had the honour of attending the annual Council Volunteers Recognition Function, where we honoured 23 long-serving volunteers.

I’m always amazed by how humble our volunteers are, some of whom have volunteered for 30-plus years, yet they still shy away from the recognition they deserve.

These dedicated members of our community not only help to deliver meals or maintain our natural bushland reserves they bring smiles to people’s faces and help build strong community connections.

Council has many opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in volunteering. Trust me you will get as much out of the experience as those you are helping.
