New planter boxes at Heathmont Shopping Centre have not only added colour and atmosphere to the popular shopping strip, they are also improving safety for visitors and shop owners.

Unfortunately, we have had some previous incidents with cars driving onto the footpath and into shop fronts. As part of carpark improvement works to address this issue, Council was installing additional bollards along the walkway.

We wanted to ensure the additional bollards didn’t have a negative impact on the streetscape, so thinking outside of the square, we instead decided to install the raised garden planters.

This has resulted in a great outcome for the community, with the new additions not only creating better protection for pedestrians, but the floral displays have also added a new feature to the walkway.

Council has received a lot of positive feedback from traders and shoppers to the precinct, which is a great outcome.
