Thanks to the community’s views, thoughts and ideas, Council is well on the way to creating a future wellbeing and recreational precinct for the community.

The next stage of consultation has now opened, with further feedback now invited on the draft Croydon Community Precinct Masterplan

Maroondah Mayor Cr Mike Symon said the draft Croydon Community Precinct Masterplan would help guide the future redevelopment, with a focus on improved connectivity with key aspects of the precinct, including recreational hubs, retail, Croydon Town Square, services and public transport.

“We had an overwhelming response during our four-week consultation period in October, with thousands of residents having a say, both online and in person, on what they envision for this precinct based on five proposed key elements,” Cr Symon said.

“From this feedback we have now developed a draft masterplan for the precinct and are again asking for the community to tell us what they think,” Cr Symon said.

To bring the masterplan to life, Council has created a visual flythrough of the precinct and invites residents to take a tour

“The flythough is an artist’s impression of how the precinct might look and features three community hubs, improved pedestrian linkages, increased areas of open space and future development site opportunities,” Cr Symon said.

On Sunday 10 November, as part of the Maroondah Festival, Council’s project team also presented a 3D scale model of the draft Croydon Community Precinct Masterplan to assist the community in visualising ideas for the precinct.

The 3D model is now on display at Croydon Library for the duration of the consultation.

“If you’re wondering what this exciting new precinct might look like, I would encourage the community to visit Croydon Library which may help you to visualise ideas for the precinct based on our draft masterplan,” Cr Symon said.

Initial preparation for a draft masterplan commenced over 12 months ago and included consultation with key user groups currently located within the precinct.

Council also undertook a review of all the buildings in the precinct and found most facilities were coming to the end of their useful life and would require significant work in the next 5 to 10 years.

“Given the age of some of these facilities, many of them require improvements to ensure we can meet the anticipated community needs and service requirements well into the future,” Cr Symon said.

“Further detailed design works still need to be completed, including how best to retain and incorporate existing heritage elements. These will be reviewed with user groups and the community based on the community feedback received during this stage of consultation.

“Thank you to everyone who has had their say on this very exciting and important project thus far. We now welcome you to view the draft masterplan and/or the precinct flythrough or stop by Croydon Library to see our 3D scale model in person and report back to us on what you think.

“We want to capture as much feedback as possible, so please let us know what you like about the potential design options and whether you think there are still other possibilities that could be explored,” he said.

Feedback on the draft Croydon Community Precinct Masterplan closes Sunday 15 December 2019.
