Stallholders, businesses and community groups eager to be part of the 2019 Maroondah Festival are now invited to lodge an application form

Community groups, service providers, performers and visual artists are encouraged to submit events and activities for possible inclusion in this year’s festival celebrations.

Application forms are now being accepted from groups wanting to be part of the event, whether holding a display, providing interactive activities, workshops, demonstrations and performances, or selling food or drink:

  • The community food ballot closes on Monday 12 August.
  • Applications for Interactive Grants and Performers both close on Monday 26 August.
  • Applications for a community or commercial site close Friday 13 September.

Mayor Cr Rob Steane said that with Maroondah Festival this year celebrating its 30th anniversary, the event promised to be the biggest yet seen.

“An estimated 30,000 people pass through the event throughout the day, making Maroondah Festival one of the biggest community events in Melbourne and a key event on the Melbourne cultural calendar,” Cr Steane said.

“Taking part in the Maroondah Festival is a great way to build awareness in the local community of what your organisation does. It can also provide a great fundraising opportunity,” he said.

Council is also encouraging community groups to provide fun, interactive activities at the festival by offering financial assistance under the Maroondah Festival Interactive Grants Program.

Some examples of activities eligible for funding include craft and music-based workshops, ‘come and try’ sports and guest speaker appearances.

Council will contribute up to $300 to eligible community groups that meet the assessment criteria. Submissions for Interactive Grants Funding close Monday 26 August.

“A highlight of this year’s Maroondah Festival will be a Freedom of Entry to the City performance by the 408 Squadron and 4th Wing Australian Air Force Cadets. And of course, we’ll have all the usual activities and popular amusements – Community & Health Wellbeing Expo, food and artisan market stalls, main stage entertainment, plus so much more,” Cr Steane said.

Over the years, main stage headliners have included Kate Ceberano, Vanessa Amarosi, Paul Kelly, Johnny Diesel, Hunters and Collectors, as well as international acts.

Held on the picturesque lawns of Town Park in Croydon, Maroondah Festival is an outdoor cultural and community celebration catering for people of all ages.

The 30th annual Maroondah Festival will take place on Sunday 10 November at Town Park, Croydon – so save the date!
