Residents are invited to explore the fantastic modern-themed artworks on display as part of the annual Mayoral Art Exhibition, which will run from Monday 4 December to Saturday 16 December at the Maroondah Access Gallery.

The exhibition will announce this year’s Mayoral and Bendigo Bank Acquisition’s with an official event on Saturday 9 December at 2.30pm, which the community is invited to attend.

In 2017 the theme is “Modern Life”, which invited artists to explore ideas and themes that depart from traditional styles, whether through architecture, photography, sculpture, landscape, or portraiture.

Maroondah Mayor Councillor Nora Lamont said the exhibition was a longstanding annual fundraiser.

“The annual Mayoral Art Exhibition supports a fantastic cause: The Bone Marrow Donor Institute. The institute facilitates the donations and transplants that help the many Australians each year who are diagnosed with leukaemia and other fatal blood disorders,” said Cr Lamont.

“As well as supporting this important cause, one artwork is selected for acquisition by the Mayor of the day for Maroondah’s City Council’s Art Collection. Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bendigo Bank also acquire an artwork from the group of outstanding finalists,” said Cr Lamont.

Artwork of the finalists in the Mayoral Art Exhibition 2017 will be on display between Monday 4 December and Saturday 16 December 2017 at Maroondah Access Gallery at Maroondah Federation Estate.

Everyone is welcome to attend the exhibition celebration event on Saturday 9 December from 2.30pm to 4.00pm.

Visitors to the exhibition can also enjoy the café and grounds of Maroondah Federation Estate. Federation Estate is the base of many of the local community’s arts based groups including Ringwood Art Society and Studio 4 Artists.

Maroondah Federation Estate is at 32 Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood.

Viewing hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm and Saturday 12noon to 4pm.
