This year, we’re combining two of our favourite community sporting events Tri Maroondah and the Maroondah Duathlon

Join the list of hundreds of past competitors to have run, biked and swum the course by signing up to either of these events.

You choose. Do the full Triathlon, Tri Team or the Duathlon Dash!

This year’s event takes place on Sunday 17 March 2019.

Running a course through Town Park, Croydon, and swimming at Aquahub. the new Maroondah Tri and Duathlon is a great event for all fitness levels.

Mayor Cr Rob Steane said the event catered for all abilities and fitness levels, and was all about having a go.

“Whether you’re a seasoned runner, fancy yourself as a bit of a cyclist or swimmer, or if you’re just starting out, runners, cyclists and swimmers of all levels and abilities have the chance to take part,” Cr Steane said.

“In 2019, we are introducing the Tri Team event, where you can tag team with a partner or enter as a team of three and do one race leg each. Or if swimming isn’t your thing and you are up to the challenge, join us for the Duathlon Dash,” he said.

The Duathlon Dash is a three-stage event, consisting of a 1.2km run/walk, a 4.8km ride and a 1.2km run/walk.

Cr Steane said the duathlon was a great opportunity for those taking part to test their endurance in the individual category, or take on the challenge together as a group in the four-person category.

“Or, if you’re someone who enjoys swimming, cycling and running, then the Tri event is the perfect event that combines all three, with three categories to choose from – Tri Individual, Tri Family and Tri Team,” he said.

Triathlete and duathlete Caleb McIness is no stranger to competing in major events, having represented Australia in triathlon and duathlon events. He also enjoys supporting local events, has taken part in Maroondah’s inaugural Duathlon in 2017, and again in 2018.

The Sports Podiatrist and Co-Director of Freedom Sports Medicine, a sponsor of this year’s event, will be watching on from the sidelines this year. He and a team of practitioners (podiatry, physiotherapy and myotherapy) will be on hand on the day to answer any questions from runners, swimmers and cyclists alike, while also offering injury management and assessment support to participants.

Caleb says the duathlon can be a fun and great individual challenge, regardless of what level you’re at, adding that you don’t need a whiz-bang bike to do it.

“Some people are concerned about not having an expensive bike. Don’t worry…get out there and give it a go on whatever you have. Just make sure that your bike is comfortable, has working brakes and your helmet fits well,” he said.

Registrations for Tri Maroondah and the Duathlon Dash are now open. All individual participants must be 12 years and over.
