Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Nora Lamont, would like to wish the Maroondah community a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors, and all the staff at Maroondah City Council, I would like to offer my warmest wishes to everyone during this time of celebration and festivity,” Cr Lamont said.

“The Christmas season provides us with the opportunity to catch up with family and friends and to celebrate the joy of giving,” she said.

“It’s also a time to remember those in our community who are less fortunate than ourselves, or maybe to get to know some newcomers to your neighbourhood and include them in your Christmas festivities.

“Let’s take some of that goodwill and human fellowship into the New Year and make 2018 a year of hope, security and peace for everyone,” Cr Lamont said.

“Council has also updated the Christmas nativity scene in Ringwood and Croydon, with a modern interpretation of the three wise men visiting the baby Jesus, which we hope the community will enjoy,” Cr Lamont said.

Cr Lamont encouraged residents to celebrate the season in a responsible manner and to extend that care to others.

“As we all know, this is a very busy time on the roads, and with the anticipation to join loved ones, enjoy festive parties and reach holiday destinations, I urge the community to take care and drive responsibly,” said Cr Lamont.

“It’s also important to spare a thought for your pets during this time of year as loud noises made by fireworks can easily spook them, so it’s best to ensure your dog is secure in your home or back garden and, most importantly, don’t take them to events that will have fireworks. Also a reminder to keep them as hydrated and cool on hot days and avoid over-feeding them at Christmas.

“On behalf of my fellow Maroondah City Councillors, I would like to wish all residents a very prosperous and happy 2018!”
