The Maroondah community has until Friday 16 November to nominate a deserving resident for the 2019 Maroondah Australia Day Awards.

The annual awards acknowledge outstanding community service at a local level, including great achievements during the past year, or contribution to the local community over a number of years.

Mayor of Maroondah, Cr Nora Lamont, said each year Council recognised residents for their outstanding contributions to the community.

“It’s that time of year again when we ask the local community to nominate someone they feel makes our community a better place, and who does so humbly and without seeking praise or recognition,” Cr Lamont said.

“The whole community benefits from the tireless efforts that so many put in to helping to improve the lives of others. The Maroondah Australia Day Awards is our opportunity to acknowledge them publicly.

“Previous award recipients have come from all walks of life and are people who are dedicated to serving their local community.

“There are many inspiring ways that people contribute to our great city, including contributions to sport and recreation, education, business or trades, and protecting our environment and volunteering,” she said.

The three categories in which the public can nominate include: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Event of the Year.

Nominations for Event of the Year recognise events of community significance that have taken place in Maroondah and which reflect the importance of strong community values and ties.

“The Maroondah Australia Day Awards are a wonderful way that the community can bring these significant people to Council’s attention, so that as a community we can commend their contribution and inspire others by their example,” Cr Lamont added.

All nominees, and the person who nominated them, will be invited via a letter in December 2018 to attend the awards ceremony.

The Maroondah Australia Day Awards are presented at the annual Australia Day celebrations on Saturday 26 January 2019 at Ringwood Lake Park.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 16 November 2018.

  • Community Event of the Year (the event must have taken place in Maroondah between 1 January to 31 December 2018).
