Council’s youth team will continue to support Maroondah’s young people and their families over the 2017-18 Christmas school holidays.

The last session of EV’s Hangout drop-in program, which runs out of EV’s Youth Centre for young people aged 12-25 years, is on Thursday 21 December.

Youth worker Rachelle said the team would only be a call, text or facebook message away for any young person aged 12-25 in need of assistance or referral to another support agency over the Christmas break.

“Although EV’s will be closed, we’re still keen to hear from any young people who might need a chat over the summer break,” Rachelle said.

“Council offers a Youth Support Service to young people and their families, who are welcome and encouraged to access Youth Services for information, assistance or support on any topic. We welcome a call, a text, an email, or a Facebook message on any working day, in whatever way works best for you.”

EV’s Youth Centre is used as a meeting place, a source of information and education, and as an  drop in space for 12-25’s each Thursday from 3pm to 6pm (during school term).

EV’s Hangout will return in the first week back to school in Term 1, on Thursday 1 February 2018.

For anyone wanting information outside of business hours, the Youth Services website and Facebook page offers a range of information, such as activities on offer in Maroondah to keep young people entertained.

Councillor Marijke Graham said the website also offered a list of contact details for other local support services, and other resources for young people and their families.

“So, if you or someone you know finds themselves in a position where they need support or help, then our youth workers can provide information on almost any issue, including school, finding a job, family issues, getting involved in the community, or if a young person is just having a hard time,” Cr Graham said.
