Have you added a new pet to the family over the summer? Have you recently moved to Maroondah with pets? Maroondah residents are reminded that dogs and cats aged three months and older must be microchipped and registered with Council.

New pet registrations can be completed online, or in-person at one of Council’s Service Centres.

Registration and microchipping pets are essential aspects of responsible pet ownership. They provide easy identification of your dog or cat and greatly assists in their return if they are lost or found wandering away from home. Microchipping is a quick and pain-free procedure.

Once you register your pet with Council, a lifetime identification tag is issued. It should be immediately attached to your pet’s collar, and worn at all times. Pet registration is renewed each year on 10 April. Payments can be made on Council’s website, at any Council Service Centre, by phone (credit card), BPay, by mail or at Australia Post.

There are significant registration fee discounts for pensioners and for animals that have been desexed, too. Desexing is another important aspect of responsible pet ownership, as it reduces the number of unplanned litters.

An infringement may be issued to owners of dogs or cats over the age of three months that are not registered, so it’s very important to register your pets promptly. If your pet passes away or you relocate outside of Maroondah, it is also important to notify Council as soon as possible.
