Air Quality
Air quality in Maroondah is compromised by pollution generated by transport, manufacturing and household fires. There are a number of pollutants in the air that threaten and have different impacts on human health. A set of standards for these pollutants have been developed to control air pollution in Victoria. These include the State Environment Protection Policy (SEPP) for the Air Environment, however the Victorian government has adopted more stringent standards set by the National Environment Protection Measure (NPEM) for measuring these pollutants.
The EPA currently monitor air quality in a number of metropolitan locations. The closest monitoring station to the Maroondah municipality is in Box Hill.
Further information on air quality and pollution can be obtained from the Environmental Protection Authority on 9695 2777 or www.epa.vic.gov.au.
