Bin Skips
A permit is required only if the skip/bin is to be placed on Council land (ie. nature strip/road). No permit is required if the bin is placed on private land.
An application for a permit must be made by the bin hire company who is providing the mini skip/bin to the resident - most bin hire companies in the area are aware of this requirement. The permit is issued to the bin hire company, who will receive a $200 fine if no permit is obtained.
If placed on Council land, the bin must be placed in a safe location, and must comply with the VicRoads Skip Bin Code of Practice, which includes the installation of flashing yellow lights.
Companies wishing to place a bin skip on Council land and have not done so previously need to contact Council's Local Laws team on 1300 88 22 33 to arrange accreditation.
