Just add water!

The new aquatic facility is nearing completion as the finishing touches are put on both the inside and the outside, with the facility due to be completed mid 2008.

The new external signage is now in place, the three pool areas are now fully tiled and fitted out, and integration with the existing Croydon Leisure Centre continues, with the new main entrance open for business.

Council staff are continuing to make every effort to ensure minimal disruption to patrons of the Croydon Leisure Centre while this exciting work is underway.

Background

Maroondah City Council received a $2.5 million funding grant from the State Government's Sport and Recreation Victoria 'Better Pools' program to assist with the development of an aquatic facility at the Croydon Leisure Centre. This is the biggest single grant Council has ever received.

The new Croydon Aquatic Facility will be an exciting step forward for the Croydon community offering three bodies of water – a 25 metre indoor lap pool which will complement the fitness component of services already on offer at the Leisure Centre; a leisure pool with beach entry and an interactive water play area which will be welcomed by family groups; and a warm water program pool which can be used for a variety of programs and activities.

Activities planned for the new aquatic facility:

• Lap swimming, squad training, cross training for fitness
• Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs
• Water aerobics and gentle exercise classes for the general public and special needs groups
• Learn to swim programs for schools and the general public, water familiarisation and baby swim

Associated activities include:

• Pool side access to cafe and seating for adults to relax while supervising children
• Multi purpose room that may be used for contemplative activities such as Yoga, Tai Chi and relaxation classes
• A wellness centre that may include massage and other health and well being services
• Outdoor area with shade structures
