Preschools and kindergartens

Starting kindergarten is an important milestone for you and your child. A number of kindergartens offer programs for children aged 3 and 4 years.

To decide if your child is ready to start kindergarten, talk to your maternal and child health nurse about your child's health and wellbeing.

The Maroondah Integrated Kindergarten Association (MIKA) has a central enrolment system for kindergarten programs. There are currently 23 kindergartens using the MIKA central enrolment system.

Applications for 3-year-old and 4-year-old children can be made online through the MIKA website. Paper application forms are available from local maternal and child health centres, kindergartens, Council offices and service centres.

Enrolment for 4 year olds

Applications should be made between February and 30 June in the year before the child is eligible to attend kindergarten.

See the MIKA website for enrolment information for 4 year olds.

Enrolment for 3 year olds

Many kindergartens offer programs for 3 year olds. Enrolment for these programs is handled centrally by MIKA.

See the MIKA website for enrolment information for 3 year olds.
