Maroondah Disability Advisory Committee

The Maroondah Disability Advisory Committee (MDAC) provides a link between Council and people with a disability. 

The committee provides strategic advice and advocacy, helping Council to promote social inclusion and participation of people with a disability in the community.

Committee objectives

The objectives of the committee are to promote the positive image of people with a disability within Maroondah, and provide advice:

  • on policy, programs, service development, research initiatives and planning issues in relation to people with disabilities at a strategic and operational level
  • in relation to strategies for effective consultation and collaboration in Council activities with a diverse range of stakeholders reflective of the Maroondah community
  • in the development and review of the Disability Policy and Action Plan. 

Members

The MDAC consists of a maximum of 14 members and can include the following:

  • people with a disability (maximum of 6 positions)
  • carers of people with a disability, including one who is the carer of a child (2 positions)
  • service provider representatives (minimum 3 positions)
  • Council officer (minimum of 1 position, additional officers may attend as required)
  • Councillors, one of whom will chair the MDAC (2 positions) 

Seeking members for the Maroondah Disability Advisory Committee

Maroondah City Council is seeking new members for the Maroondah Disability Advisory Committee. 

The committee commenced in 2010, offering strategic and operational advice on policy, programs, service delivery, community consultation and planning and aims to include representatives from various disabilities.

We aim to have representatives from different disabilities on our committee and are currently requesting expressions of interest from young people with a disability and/or people with a sensory disability.

To be eligible for this role you must be a resident of Maroondah or able to demonstrate strong links to the Maroondah community.

The committee meets every two months on Thursday mornings, excluding December and January.

Meetings

Meetings are held every 2 months (excluding December and January). 

They are conducted in accordance with meeting procedure principles as prescribed by Maroondah City Council.
