Mental Health First Aid workshop

Council is taking action to help teach mental health first aid strategies to unpaid carers of our community in a two day Mental Health First Aid workshop. The workshops are fully funded and will take place on Wednesday 20 March and 27 March 2019. 

Workshop dates

Date: Wednesday 20 March and Wednesday 27 March 2019
Time: 9.30am to 3.30pm
Venue: Council Offices, Braeside Avenue, Ringwood

The sessions are aimed at Maroondah's unpaid carers of people with a disability or mental health condition. 

Participants will be provided with ongoing supported by EACH Social and Community Health after the sessions. A representative of EACH will attend the last session to introduce themselves and explain their supporting role.

Who should take part in the workshops?

These workshops are for unpaid carers of people with a disability or mental health condition who live in Maroondah.

All participants must be 18 years or older. 

What will you learn?

In the two-day workshop, participants learn to:

  • Skills in how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of the possible causes or risk factors for these mental health problems.
  • Awareness of the evidenced based medical, psychological and alternative treatments available.
  • Skills in how to give appropriate initial help and support someone experiencing a mental health problem.
  • Skills in how to take appropriate action if a crisis situation arises involving suicidal behaviour, panic attack, stress reaction to trauma, overdose or threatening psychotic behaviour.
