A number of environmental community groups are active in the Maroondah municipality. These groups are primarily volunteer workers who contribute many hours to preserve and maintain the local natural environment. These community groups are involved in many activities and events including the removal of litter and weeds as well as tree planting.

'Bushlink' groups invite representatives from environmental groups to attend their meetings in order to encourage communication between groups on a regular basis. They also encourage others in the community who are merely interested in keeping up to date with environmental issues within the municipality. A vital networking resource!

Why join an environmental group?
Joining an environmental group is a great experience for those who would like to help the environment, or just like to gain experience in an environment related field of work. Volunteers are welcome to join any of the groups.
Benefits include:
- Networking i.e. meeting a variety of interesting people and useful contacts
- Gaining skills in article writing, drawing and/or publishing (if the group has a newsletter)
- Obtaining plant identification skills
- Gaining additional skills from field work such as revegetation works, seed collection, plant propagation and weed control
- Learning general ecology principles
- Preserving invaluable flora and fauna
General information:
- No previous experience necessary to join a group
- Groups are made up of people of all ages
- Students can often complete compulsory work experience hours through a group
