Once completed, the project will provide great benefits to the area and will better connect Main Street to Croydon Station and Bus Interchange – building on the work of the recent Croydon Connects Project.

This project is being made possible through $2 million in Council's Capital Works budget.

A Changing Places toilet facility will be included as part of the new Croydon Town Square, thanks to $100,000 funding from the Victorian Government.

In planning for the project, Council has undertaken community consultation and worked closely with key stakeholders, to understand what they would like to see in this new and exciting space.

From the consultation, key themes have been identified for design consideration. They are:

  • safe
  • connected
  • activated
  • inclusive
  • amenity (improved facilities)
  • identity (maintain local identity).

Progress so far

To prepare for the new Town Square, demolition of the former 97 Main Street building is now complete with the open space formed to create a temporary community gathering place over the Christmas and New Year period prior to the start of construction in 2018. The anticipated completion date is early 2019.
