Council has allocated funds in its 2017/18 Capital Works Footpath Program for the construction of a footpath along the eastern side of Dorset Road, Croydon, from Hull Road to Lincoln Road.

Maroondah City Council has an ongoing commitment to improve pedestrian movement and safety within the municipality.

The footpath will be constructed in accordance with Council’s adopted Principal Pedestrian Network (PPN), which aims to improve community safety and connectivity by providing pedestrian footpaths on at least one side of all roads that are pedestrian thoroughfares.

Due to the significant crossfall within the eastern naturestrip of Dorset Road, and due to other site constraints, Council has prepared a detailed design for this footpath.

Key elements of the plans

  • concrete footpath, with localised sections of asphalt footpath as required to minimise impact on tree roots
  • a 1.5 metre path width, with localised sections of 1 metre width through vehicle crossings to ensure adequate vehicle clearance over the footpath and to minimise required reconstruction of internal driveways
  • location of footpath varies between back of kerb and the property boundary depending on site conditions
  • construction of localised sections of retaining wall
  • partial or full reconstruction of vehicle crossings, as required
  • partial reconstruction of internal driveways as require
  • removal of 15 trees of varying size as required to construct the footpath.

Plans can be viewed by appointment at Council's City Offices in Braeside Avenue Ringwood, by appointment until Friday 6 April 2018, or viewed below. Please note the files below are quite large when downloading.

Tree removal

Due to site constraints, it has not been possible to avoid tree removal. In preparing the design, Council’s Engineering Services Team inspected the site with Council’s arborists resulting in a design that uses localised sections of asphalt and localised raising of the footpath to minimise tree removal.  Should you wish to discuss the specifics or reasons for the tree removal further, please contact Council’s Project Engineer, Matthew Wright on 9298 4357.

Further information

Tree removal is scheduled to occur from 21 to 25 May. Footpath construction works are scheduled to start on Monday 28 May, pending the approval of Traffic Management Plans by VicRoads. Works are scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2018, subject to weather.

For further information on the proposed footpath works, contact Council’s Project Engineer, Matthew Wright, on 9298 4357.
