Council is upgrading the existing CCTV network within the Croydon Town Centre precinct.

Council received funding of $435,000 from the Australian Government, to upgrade and extend the existing CCTV network within the Croydon Town Centre precinct. The funding is provided through the Safer Streets Programme.

The detailed design for the project has been completed, contractors appointed and new hardware has been installed at the Croydon Police Station.

The project includes the upgrade of 14 existing CCTV cameras; an upgrade to the wi-fi communication system; and the installation of an additional 7 CCTV cameras at designated priority areas within the Croydon Town Centre.

The additional cameras will assist in providing the community with greater peace of mind when visiting Croydon Town Centre. It will support the Croydon Town Square development and the Croydon Connects project by providing improved pedestrian safety along an established route, from Croydon Station through Main Street and into Croydon Park.

Council will continue to work with local police, traders, community services, other levels of government and the community to enhance these initiatives and create a safe and vibrant Croydon Town Centre.
