Solar Savers

solar panels

Maroondah City Council is part of a program to support local pensioners to install solar with no upfront costs. Solar Savers will grow renewable energy in Maroondah while helping pensioners to save on power bills and stay comfortable in their homes.

Local Government has been at the forefront of local action to tackle climate change and Solar Savers is no exception. Council is proud to be participating in this pioneering program, which is paving the way for a future initiative that can be rolled out across the state.

Project update

Phase 1 of the program is fully subscribed, with 15 householders in Maroondah signing up to install solar on their homes and gradually pay for the cost of the system through rates repayments over 10 years.

Phase 2 of the program is underway. This phase offers eligible householders the option to install solar on their homes and gradually pay for the cost of the system through a low-interest bank loan (subject to normal bank lending criteria), or householders can organise their own finance. Power bill savings from the panels cover the cost of these repayments. Careful modelling has been done to make sure every household is at least $100 in front at the end of each year.

Only limited places are available for phase 2. Council has written to eligible residents across the municipality to advise them of the opportunity to take part in the project.
