Planning Framework

There are a number of planning tools to inform the form and future locations of developments. These are required to be considered in decision making by Council and should therefore be considered by applicants and interested parties when considering planning permits.

Areas to be considered include Plan Melbourne, the Maroondah Planning Scheme, associated reference documents and other strategies and studies to inform future revisions to the scheme.

Plan Melbourne

Plan Melbourne is the Victorian Government’s metropolitan planning strategy that will guide the city’s growth to 2050.

Maroondah Planning Scheme

The Maroondah Planning Scheme establishes the expectations and restrictions on development. It does so through the application of local policies, planning zones, and overlays.

Other strategies and studies

Ongoing strategic work that will inform the future development of Maroondah Planning Scheme includes the Maroondah Housing Strategy (2016) which guides future residential development to protect and enhance the areas we live whilst meeting our housing needs through to 2040.
