Maroondah Early Years Plan

The Maroondah Early Years Plan is a five year strategic plan. Maroondah City Council developed the Plan during 2004 in partnership with the community, children's services providers and key stakeholders. It builds on the initiatives and accomplishments of the Maroondah Family and Children's Services Plan 2000-2003. The Plan aims to create an environment in which the community of Maroondah will foster the development of happy, healthy and resilient children.

The development of the Maroondah Early Years Plan involved extensive consultation with the community through one-on-one interviews with over 100 parents, parent focus groups, two service provider forums, parent surveys, service provider surveys and individual contact with key stakeholders. The end result is a comprehensive strategic direction for Maroondah's role in Early Childhood Services provision, advocacy and partnership that is truly reflective of the community need. The Maroondah Early Years Plan was endorsed by Council in July 2005.

The key priorities identified by the community consultation were:

  • Integration of services, staff and resources.
  • Quality, affordable, accessible, flexible childcare options.
  • Information provision and delivery in an accessible and consistent manner.
  • More specialised paediatric and family support services.
  • Increased opportunities for social connectedness within the community.
  • Greater availability of respite care services for children.
  • Integration and access to universal and secondary services.
  • A diverse service system that offers a range of choice specifically related to childcare.
