This policy sets out Council's position on electronic gaming in Maroondah, with a focus on problem gambling and the location and operation of poker machines.

Submissions on Electronic Gaming (Poker Machines) 

Gambling Licences Review

In May 2006, Council presented a submission to the State Government's Review of Post-2012 Electronic Gaming Machine, Club Keno and Wagering Licences Agreements. This Review is concerned with the licence structure and associated arrangements for gaming and wagering licences in Victoria after the year 2012. Council's submission is consistent with the Maroondah Gaming Policy & Statement of Practice and addresses key issues of concern in the local community.

In March 2007, the Legislative Council of the Victorian Parliament established the Select Committee on Gaming Licensing to conduct an inquiry into the gaming licence arrangements and other related gaming matters.

Community Benefit Statements 

In June 2007, the Department of Justice released an Information Paper outlining proposed State Government reforms to Community Benefit Statements. The purpose of Community Benefit Statements is to demonstrate the community benefits of gaming.

Gaming Machine Approvals

In July 2007, the Department of Justice released a discussion paper to consider the process for approving gaming machines in local communities. This includes discussion of the roles of the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the process for deciding on the locations and numbers of gaming machines, and the issues to be considered in such decisions.
