Maroondah Community Wellbeing Plan 2009 – 2013

The Maroondah Community Wellbeing Plan 2009 – 2013 outlines Council’s commitment to improving health and wellbeing for the community over the next four years. The Plan aims to tackle health and wellbeing challenges in Maroondah by addressing issues that impact on the whole community as well as issues related to social and economic disadvantage that result in poor health outcomes for particular groups in our community.

Based on the Social Model of Health, the Plan acknowledges that a range of social, environmental, economic and behavioural factors infl uence health. The Action Plans put this model into practice, with strategies that aim to reduce health inequities through actions that empower individuals and communities to participate in decision-making and access the skills and resources they need to improve factors, which have an effect on their health.

This document outlines the evidence used to develop the Community Wellbeing Plan and establishes the Maroondah health and wellbeing priorities for 2009-2013. Each of these health and wellbeing priorities are equally important and are supported by comprehensive action plans that aim to:

  • Put into action the aspirations of the community for health and wellbeing as expressed through Council’s program of Community Wellbeing Consultations
  • Address key health determinants to achieve health gains in the municipality
  • Provide a strategic foundation for partnerships between Council, the Department of Human Services and Maroondah’s Community Service Providers delivering health and wellbeing outcomes.

The six health and wellbeing priorities are:

  • Healthy Minds Healthy Choices

  • Engaged Resilient Communities

  • Accessible Safe Communities

  • Lifestyle Opportunities and Choices

  • Targeting Equity and Social Inclusion

  • Healthy Sustainable Environments
