At its meeting on 13 December 2010, Council received a report on the progress of the proposed Heathmont Shopping Centre car park redesign.
Significant work has been undertaken, with the assistance of local Members of Parliament, representatives of the Heathmont Business Group, VicRoads Senior Management and engineers to prepare three signal design options, as outlined below:
Option One
Full signalisation of Canterbury Road/Allens Road (PDF, 238kb)
Option Two
Relocation of the existing pedestrian-operated signals to incorporate a central access into the car park (PDF, 222kb)
Option Three
Relocation of the existing pedestrian-operated signals to incorporate access into the car park opposite the Commonwealth Bank (PDF, 269kb)
The preliminary concept plans have been developed in conjunction with VicRoads Traffic Engineers and signal experts, however the design options are subject to detailed design and full approval by VicRoads.
VicRoads have indicated that the signalisation of Allens Road (Option One) would not be supported, however Option Two or Three would be likely to receive support subject to detailed design and full funding by Council.
Please note that Option Three was developed at the request of the Heathmont Shopping Centre traders and has received their support subject to the design retaining the lower western exit.
Feedback invited
Council is now requesting feedback from the local community on the three potential signal design options.
Feedback can be posted to:
