What type of photograph can be entered?

It's up to you!

Anything about the Maroondah community that is important to you. It could be a place, person, pastime, your neighbourhood or street, a community, sporting or social event, even a community group activity.

Think beyond the typical landmarks of Ringwood Lake, EastLink and the Clocktower and show us a different side to the City of Maroondah.

You can enter up to two photos, and they must be A4 in size.

Entries must have been taken within the City of Maroondah after 1 July 2011. Make sure you provide a caption for your photo as well as where it was taken.  And be sure to get permission to submit photos if they are of other people.

Entry categories and prizes

Open section – open to everyone aged 18 years and over

1st prize: Gift Voucher from Croydon Camera House to the value of $300

2nd prize: 2012 Karralyka Theatre Season double pass

All photos entered must have been taken after 1 July 2011 and within the City of Maroondah. Be sure to add a caption and the location of your photo.

Intermediate section – 13 to 17 years

1st prize: Gift Voucher from Croydon Camera House to the value of $200

2nd prize: 2 x 10 session swim passes for Croydon Leisure & Aquatic Centre

All photos entered must have been taken after 1 July 2011 and within the City of Maroondah. Be sure to add a caption and the location of your photo.

Junior section – up to 12 years

1st prize: Gift Voucher from Croydon Camera House to the value of $100

2nd prize: 3 x family swim passes for Croydon Leisure & Aquaitc Centre

The junior section is especially good for primary school students.

All photos entered must have been taken after 1 July 2011 and within the City of Maroondah. Be sure to add a caption and the location of your photo.

Mayor’s Encouragement Award

Prize: Eastland shopping voucher to the value of $200

This award is presented by the Mayor at the awards ceremony and is chosen from the above three categories.

Special exhibition

This year’s entries will be displayed at a special exhibition at Maroondah Art Gallery, where art lovers can enjoy a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. Your photos will be on show from Thursday 28 June until Saturday 14 July.

Prize awards

The Mayor of Maroondah will present the prizes at the awards ceremony held during the first week of the exhibition – each entrant will receive an invitation by mail to attend the awards evening.

Featured photos

The Maroondah Weekly will publish some of the entries during the competition and will also feature the winning entries in a special supplement. Maroondah City Council will include some of the entries in its publications and on its website, along with the name of the photographer and the photo caption where possible.

How to enter

Complete and sign the entry form after you have read the Conditions of Entry on the entry form.

Write on the back of each A4 photograph:

  • your name
  • your address
  • your telephone number
  • the photo’s caption
  • where the photo was taken

It’s best to attach a sticker to the back of each photograph or write with a pencil (pens can indent the photos).

Post your entry form and photographs to:

or take your entry to any of Council’s Service Centres.

Don’t forget

  • The subject of all photos must be within Maroondah
  • Photographs must be taken after 1 July 2011
  • Please include a caption and the location on each photo entry
  • You can enter up to two photos and they must be A4 size only - with only one image per A4 sheet
  • Please do not add any extra text to your photo/s
  • The entry form must be completed and attached to the photo/s
  • Because your photo may feature in a Council publication, if you are entering a photo of someone else please ensure that you have his or her permission in writing and include with the entry form.
