Population & Household Projections

Maroondah’s population is projected to grow to around 128,000 residents by the year 2031.
The rate of population growth in Maroondah is expected to be quite moderate – an average increase of 0.8% per year.
There will be a considerable shift in the age structure of the Maroondah community over the next 25 years. Overall, the proportion of children and of adults aged 25-34 years will decrease. At the same time, there will be increases in the proportion of all other age groups, particularly in the older population (aged over 55 years).
The number of households in Maroondah is expected to reach 55,000 by the year 2031 – this is an increase of around 18,000 households between 2006 and 2031.
It is anticipated that the average household size will continue to decline, with more people living alone or in single parent or couple-only families.
Due to this trend towards smaller households, households will grow at a faster rate than population.
