Ringwood Aquatic Centre closing date - June 2012
Council has made the decision to extend the closure date for the current Ringwood Aquatic Centre. The closure date will now be in June 2012.
The decision to close the centre was made in May 2010, with all staff, user groups, patrons and the general community given (at the time) 12 months notice of the closure.
This means user groups and individuals will have a total of 25 months notice of the closure.
Plans to improve the aquatic facilities in Ringwood have been underway since an independent review of the current facility was conducted in 2009. The review recommended that the current facility be demolished and a new facility constructed.
Assistance for users of Ringwood Aquatic Centre during the closure period
During the closure period, Council will continue to work closely with all key stakeholders and user groups, including schools, swimming, diving and triathlon clubs to assist them with alternative locations in the region, which include Council’s two aquatic facilities in Croydon.
Council has been in consultation with other aquatic facilities in the region and assisted aquatic clubs and users of Ringwood Aquatic Centre with information and introductions.
Aquatic programs and learn to swim programs, including the access for all ability programs such as Aqua Buddies, will continue to be held at the Croydon Leisure and Aquatic Centre after the closure of Ringwood Aquatic Centre.
