Ringwood Central Activities District aims and objectives

The Central Activities District program aims to deliver:

  • High quality activity centres that are easy to reach and serve the whole community
  • More community centres in and around shopping centres
  • More new houses close to services and public transport

To achieve these aims, the Central Activities District Program objectives are to:

  • Improve public transport usage and the integration of transport services
  • Leverage private investment through strategic public investment
  • Improve the overall quality of places and encourage sustainable city development
  • Develop high density housing at strategic locations near transit centres
  • Build communities with fair access to services and employment opportunities
  • Provide a range of housing including affordable housing

The focus of development under Melbourne 2030 is to create mixed-use communities at centres well served, or with the potential to be well served by public transport, at places located on the Principal Public Transport Network. Ringwood, 25 kilometres east of Melbourne, is strategically located on this network and is a significant hub for bus and rail services in eastern Melbourne, as well as being closely located to arterial roads and the proposed Mitcham-Frankston Project, therefore serving both private and public transport movements. Given this infrastructure, Ringwood is effectively the gateway to the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley, the 'decision' point at which people decide to go to the hills or to go to the wineries.

Implementation of the Central Activities District Program in Ringwood comprises a number of planning and infrastructure projects to unlock opportunities for businesses and community.
