Fences abutting Council land

Maroondah City Council will pay half the cost of building or renewing fencing that abuts Council property in the municipality. However, fencing that abuts roads or rights of way remain at full cost to the property owner.

What Council will pay for

Council will only agree to pay half the cost of a standard paling fence (1.63 metre or 5'4" in height). 

If you wish to construct a fence higher than the standard height or of different material, you will have to:

  1. obtain approval from Council
  2. cover the price difference.

Apply for a new fence

To apply for renewal or erection of fencing that abuts Council land, please provide:

  • a brief letter detailing the proposed works
  • 3 quotes from fencing contractors for the cost of a standard paling fence that is to be constructed and shared by Council-owned property.
