Respite Care

Council's Respite Care Service provides carers of frail older people and people with a disability with a short break from their caring role.

The service aims to:

  • provide meaningful respite for the service users and their carers
  • assist carers in their caring role
  • strengthen the ability of families caring for a child (under 18) with a disability. Within Maroondah, Calvary Silver Circle Home Support Services provides Respite Care services on behalf of Council.  

Service Tasks

The service provides trained staff to care for frail older residents or people with a disability in their own home or in the community, during the day, evening or for longer periods as required, including overnight respite. Staff can assist with a range of personal care tasks and support.

Eligibility

The service is aimed towards the carers of frail older residents and persons with a disability.

Assessment

Assessment for Home and Community Care services is undertaken by the Care Coordination Staff who are sensitive and aware of the needs of the frail aged, those with a disability, and their carers. At all times the service user's right to privacy and confidentiality is maintained. All service users will receive a copy of their service plan.

Cost of the service

Council's fees for HACC services are based on the Victorian Government's Home & Community Care (HACC) Fees Policy (1998). The cost of the service is discussed with the service user during the assessment interview.

Integrated Holiday Program

Council provides support for children, with a disability, in Council run school holiday programs.  This is achieved by the funding of a support worker to assist the child to integrate into a program.

Home from Home Community Respite Program

Maroondah City Council's Community Respite Program operates from 2 Laurence Grove East Ringwood Thursday and Friday.  It is a respite alternatiave for clients with early stage dementia.  This program is delivered in a home environment with a maximum of 5 clients per day attending.
