Roadside Fundraising

An organisation must apply for a permit if they wish to perform the following fundraising activities:

  • temporary roadside fundraising - selling items such as Christmas trees or flowers
  • highway charity collections - collecting at road intersections controlled by traffic signals
  • doorknock charity collections - doorknocking from house to house

The permit is free, but can only be issued to not-for-profit community organisations.

How to apply for a permit

All requests to carry out roadside fundraising must be be in writing, and include details of:

  • the name of the organisation
  • the date and time of the collection
  • where the collection will take place.

Permit conditions

  • Permits are only issued to not-for-profit community organisations.
  • You must provide a Certificate of Currency of $10million public liability, and Maroondah City Council must be listed as an interested party.

Doorknocking

  • All collectors must wear identification showing the name of the organisation and the collector's name.

Intersection collecting

  • The permit is issued subject to you then seeking approval from Victoria Police.
  • Collections may only take place at the intersections nominated in the permit
  • All collectors must wear highly visible clothing
  • Collections can only take place between sunrise and sunset.
