Social Support Program

Council's Social Support Program promotes opportunities for the frail aged, people with a disability and their carers to establish and maintain social contacts, access community facilities and events, and participate in the community life of Maroondah.

What does the service provide?

Shopping Bus Service

This service assists people with door to door transport to Eastland Shopping Centre on a fortnightly basis. Individuals are picked up by volunteers using Council's mini-bus every second Wednesday and Thursday.

Library Service

Individuals are picked up from home and driven to the Library by volunteer drivers alternating from Ringwood to Croydon on a week to week basis. They can exchange books and enjoy morning tea before being driven home.

Eligibility

The service is aimed towards frail older residents and people with a disability who require transport support to access their community.

Assessment

Assessment is undertaken by trained staff who are sensitive and aware of the needs of the frail aged and people with a disability. At all times the service user's right to privacy and confidentiality is maintained.

Cost of the Service

There is no charge for the Library and Shopping services.

Further Support

This service provides assistance on a range of issues including housing enquiries, information about day activity programs, hostel/nursing homes and general welfare concerns. Where age or disability prevents access to the Council offices, a home visit can be arranged.
