Leisure Services Strategic Plan

Maroondah City Council Leisure Services is committed to working in partnership with the community to encourage, develop, support and sustain a wide range of physically active leisure options. The Plan identifies key issues and considerations that have influenced or have the potential to influence the planning and provision of leisure within Maroondah.  From these, recommendations have then been developed which will guide the future direction of Council’s Leisure Services Team.

The development of the Strategic Plan involved extensive consultation with the community through community interviews, sport and recreation club surveys, community focus groups and individual contact with key stakeholders.

The primary purpose of this Plan is to develop and clear understanding of the current Maroondah community in terms of demographical information, the current leisure opportunities available and current participation data. The consultation program will also inform Council of the barriers to participation specific to Maroondah and the current issues and future needs of Maroondah clubs and schools. The information collated was compared against industry trends, relevant planning and legislative considerations and national statistics.

Maroondah City Council recognises that participation in physical activity plays an important role in ensuring the optimal health and wellbeing of its community, and promotes community connectedness and involvement. Council plays a major role in creating and maintaining supportive and accessible environments for leisure participation and supports the strengthening and development of community leisure organisations through advocacy, information and direct support.
