Seeking young people interested in the performing arts

Aspiring actors and actresses, set designers, sound and lighting technicians, and script writers have the opportunity to gain insights into the performing arts industry by participating in Maroondah City Council’s Youth Performing Arts Program.

Councillor Natalie Thomas said Council is inviting young people aged between 12 and 25 who are interested in learning about different areas within the performing arts field to participate in the program.

“The creative program not only offers young people terrific skills in performing arts but uses performing arts as a means to present a youth perspective on drugs and alcohol in our society,” said Cr Thomas.

“Participants can choose which areas of performing arts they are interested in, and these include skills in script writing, performance, directing, costume and set design as well as sound, lighting and staging,” said Cr Thomas.

“Craig Irvine, a Performing Arts Facilitator will be on hand throughout the program to assist the group with the planning, development and implementation of a performance, so no previous experience is required,” said Cr Thomas.

“An Orientation Night will be held on Thursday 22 May for those young people who are interested in finding out more about the program. It will provide a chance to ask questions and explore creative options in an open forum,” said Cr Thomas.

“Council’s 2008 Youth Performing Arts Program will conclude with performances held during October,” said Cr Thomas.

The Orientation Night will be held on Thursday 22 May from 5pm to 6.30pm at EV’s Youth Centre, 212 Mt Dandenong Road, Croydon. Everyone is welcome but an RSVP is essential.
