Australian Citizenship

From 1 October 2007, people who satisfy the general eligibility criteria are required to pass a test before applying for Australian citizenship.

For the convenience of residents, application forms for Australian Citizenship are available at the various Service Centres throughout Maroondah, or you can apply online from the Australian Government citizenship site. When completed, these forms together with the prescribed fee are lodged with the Department of Immigration & Citizenship.

Applications are processed by the Department which notifies Council when there are sufficient candidates to warrant the organising of a Citizenship Ceremony, usually four or five times per year. The Department advises candidates of the date of the Ceremony at which they will become Australian Citizens. You will receive details about your citizenship ceremony well in advance so that you can invite relatives and friends if you wish.

At such Ceremonies, candidates make their oath or affirmation of allegiance and receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship, usually from the Mayor.
