The Community Grants Funding Program offers annual grants schemes to incorporated, not-for-profit community groups on an annual basis.
Financial assistance is available through three grant schemes.
The Community Development Grants Scheme, The Small Equipment Grants Scheme and The Emergency Relief Grants Scheme.
Community group Chin Community Victoria were able to utilise the Community Development grant scheme to purchase essential equipment for their fortnightly news videos.
“Our fortnightly community videos cover topics from news and entertainment to health and COVID updates. Our volunteers were originally videoing these important community updates on their phone, but with the grant, we have been able to purchase decent equipment to produce these,” Chin Community Victoria spokesperson, Piang Lilian, said.
The grant also enabled the expansion of their school holiday program, so disadvantaged community members could enjoy free activities and day trips.
“We are a refugee community, with many not able to afford holidays. We were able to help those in the community to be involved in our school holiday program and come along on a day trip to Adventure Park in Geelong,” Piang said.
Looking to the future, Piang hopes to further aid the Chin community by purchasing extra industrial sewing machines to upskill women in the community for future career opportunities.
“The funding is a great opportunity for any community group, big or small. We hope to continue to help our community with funding programs like these,” said Piang.
