Council is now accepting applications for the 2024 James N Stevens Scholarship.
Worth $3,000, this scholarship aims to provide a local tertiary student with development opportunities, work experience and insights into a career in local government by partaking in a practical placement with Council.
Council offers the scholarship annually in recognition of the many years of service to the local community by the former Deputy Town Clerk of the City of Croydon, the late Mr James (Jim) Stevens.
Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Rob Steane OAM, encouraged local students to apply.
“The scholarship is a great opportunity for a Maroondah student. It provides a range of development opportunities, practical work experience within the Local Government sector, and insights into the variety of services and programs that Council offers our community. I’d encourage eligible students to find out more and apply,” Cr Steane said.
Previous recipient Ethan occupied a place within Council’s People and Culture team, gaining experience with Learning Development, Diversity, and Human Resources teams.
Ethan praised the program and said the practical experience provided useful knowledge that related to his studies.
“It’s really good to see how all of my learning can be applied in real life and how everything went on behind the scenes,” Ethan said.
“I’d encourage future students to apply. It gives you a taste of what your career could be like.”
Applications are open to students who have successfully completed at least the first year of a tertiary course and are undertaking, or about to undertake, their second year of tertiary studies in one of the following areas:
