Council formally adopted the Maroondah Extreme Sports Strategy on Monday 29 August 2022.
The strategy was developed following the growth of participation in extreme sports such as BMX riding, skateboarding and parkour in Maroondah, and included detailed consultation and research into participation trends and an assessment of whether Council’s current facilities are meeting the needs of the community.
Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Mike Symon, said the Maroondah Extreme Sports Strategy will help Council to support changing needs and trends while providing extreme sports facilities that cater for residents’ safety and enjoyment.
“Council is pleased to adopt the Maroondah Extreme Sports Strategy, which has allowed us to better understand how our residents participate in extreme sports at Council’s nine existing facilities.
“We are committed to providing the best possible facilities and services for our community, so this strategy will ensure we continue to balance the thrill of extreme sports with necessary safety measures when providing facilities for our community to use,” Cr Symon said.
“Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. We are excited to implement the strategy and look forward to seeing even more residents utilising our extreme sports facilities.”
The Maroondah Extreme Sports Strategy is available to read on Council’s website.
