The Active & Healthy Ageing Initiative is Maroondah’s guide to prepare for an ageing population. After extensive consultation with our community aged 45+ and with the wider community, Council launched its initiative. The community prioritised the 8 age-friendly domains and has identified initiatives specific to Maroondah. The initiative will be jointly evaluated by Council and the community throughout its life cycle.
For more information regarding our age-friendly journey or to receive copies for your group of the initiative, please contact the Active & Healthy Ageing Coordinator on 9294 5790.

Intergenerational Musical Memories Pilot Project

The project used music to bring together one generation within an aged care facility that was experiencing some memory loss and another that were disenfranchised from mainstream society.
Through music, both generations were able to connect, grow and learn that age is no barrier to building relationships.
Age-friendly warm water classes at Aquanation
As part of Council’s Active and Healthy Ageing Initiative, we are offering a program of gentle exercise classes in Aquanation’s warm water pool at a subsidised rate ($6.70).
Classes will take place each term for 2019 (no classes during school holidays). For more information, please contact Council’s Active & Healthy Ageing Coordinator, Richard Joseph, on 9294 5790.
Free I.T. (Intergenerational Training) Clinic

The Active & Healthy Ageing Initiative in conjunction with Maroondah secondary colleges offers a free training opportunity for Maroondah’s ageing community to receive free I.T. assistance within an intergenerational setting.
Improved Outdoor Spaces Nominations Program
In line with the objectives of the Active & Healthy Ageing Initiative, Council proactively seeks nominations from the community for improvements to Maroondah’s Outdoor Spaces each year.
