Council has completed upgrades at the Dublin Road and Knaith Road intersection.

The upgrade involved installing traffic lights at the intersection Dublin Road and Knaith Road.

What's a blackspot?

Blackspots are generally identified by intersections that have a proven history of accidents over the most recent five-year period.

The Federal Government’s Black Spot Program considers these locations for further funding and provides an opportunity to proactively address critical road safety issues.

Why did we installing traffic signals?

This intersection was nominated for consideration for the Black Spot Program on the basis that there have been several accidents reported within the last five years, including two serious right-turn incidents.

Traffic signals will eliminate the need for motorists turning from Knaith Road to select a gap in Dublin Road traffic and will reduce the potential for accidents.

The traffic signals will also help pedestrians, including school students, cross safely. Pedestrians currently need to divert to the crossing at Railway Avenue or cross without traffic controls.

An independent traffic engineering expert was engaged to assist Council with the Blackspot submission that was assessed by VicRoads. The submission included:

  • An independent traffic engineering assessment (scoping report).
  • A functional layout plan of the proposed signalised intersection.
  • A modelling analysis to estimate traffic delays and queues that would form under an intersection with signals.
  • ·Overall summary on the consultation outcome including details on various crashes provided by the involved residents.
