Council has completed works at Cheong Oval.

New Tiff Tuff Couch grass being planted at Cheong oval.

Council has commenced works to convert the existing Kikuyu grass at Cheong Park oval to a Tiff Tuff couch variety, The new grass has superior wear and drought tolerance and will provide and better surface for the sports being played at Cheong Park.

The process involves spraying out of the existing surface (already completed), then using a line plant machine to plant cuttings of the new turf into lines 100mm apart and 30mm deep.

The ground will then be heavily irrigated for the next 4 weeks to ensure the newly planted turf survives until it establishes a root system. At this point a program involving fertilising, topdressing and watering will ensure rapid establishment of the new turf over the entire surface.

During the initial 3-4 weeks the ground will be very wet and we ask for the community to please stay off the ground during this time.
