Lusher Road Drainage Improvement

Lusher Road Croydon
  • Drainage
Approx. start date:09 September 2016
Approx. end date:05 July 2017
The Lusher Road Drainage Improvement works aim to improve the storm water capture within the precinct to protect local properties from flooding during heavy storm events.

To date, Council has completed a number of key projects that form the overall Civic Square Flood Mitigation Works, including:

  • The installation of an overland flow path from Birdwood Road and Lusher Road, through the car park to the south of Aquahub, around the Fred Geale Oval to the Melbourne Water sedimentation basin near Norton Road.
  • Reconstruction of the existing Aquahub car park and roadway into a combined retarding basin and car park.
  • Reshaping of the detention pond at the rear of 19-23 Lusher Road, including the installation of the pumping system and generator building and swale improvements.

Final Stage

The final stage of works involves the reconstruction of Lusher Road into a V-shaped profile. This will act as an overland drain to divert the storm water, via Birdwood Road, through the car park, into the overland flow channel at the south side of Aquahub. This will minimise flooding in the Lusher Road and Birdwood Road properties during a 100 year Average Recurrence Interval (ARI) event.

Works have progressed as follows:

  • Reconstruction of Lusher Road into V shaped profile north of Birdwood Road – completed
  • Construction of additional drainage infrastructure to improve capture – completed
  • Kerb and Channel and vehicle crossing reconstruction – completed
  • Installation of retaining wall between number 9 and number 11 Lusher Road and in front of the Scout Hall at Birdwood Road – completed
  • Upgrade of drainage crossing at 23 Lusher Road, Croydon – to commence in early May 2017
  • Reconstruction of Lusher Road into V shaped profile south of Birdwood Road – to commence in late May 2017

Works are expected to be complete in June 2017, subject to weather conditions.

Road Closure

As part of the Lusher Road drainage improvements works, significant upgrades are required to the drainage crossing point located at 23 Lusher Road. In order to facilitate the upgrade works, Lusher Road will need to be fully closed at property number 23 during working hours (7am to 5pm) for approximately 3 weeks (1 May to 22 May). During this time detour routes will be in place to reduce the impact to residents and the local community as shown below.

Closure Location: outside no .23 Lusher Road.
Dates: 7am to 5pm, 1 May to 22 May
Detour Route: Detour through Vinter Avenue, Bayswater Road and Mt Dandenong Road
Please note: outside of working hours, Lusher Road will be partially closed (one lane) and will operate under contra flow via portable traffic signals.
