About Detox Your home

Detox Your Home events are drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless, supported by a COVIDSafe plan.

This service is for household chemicals only.

  • The maximum acceptable weight or size for a single container is 20 kilograms or 20 litres.
  • We can't decant so bring them in disposable, clearly labelled containers.
  • If you don’t know what’s inside a container, label it as ‘unknown’.

We can’t take paint, fluorescent lights and batteries.

View the full list of items accepted and not accepted including where to take items we don't accept.

On the day:

  • Put your clearly labelled items in the empty boot of your car or vehicle tray.
  • Drive-in and follow the event signage and directions.
  • Stay in your car: you will check in using a QR code and our trained chemists will do the rest.
  • Follow all current public health measures at the time, including wearing a mask and staying home if you feel unwell

For public health measures, visit the Department of Health and Human Services website.

If you can’t get to an event, here’s how to store unwanted household chemicals until you can safely dispose of them.

This event is delivered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with local governments.
