This session for women 18+ will increase their knowledge on the safe use of technology and where to go for support if needed.

Women are more likely to be the target of online abuse than men which can damage their confidence, self-esteem and feelings of personal safety.

 This session for women 18+ provides an opportunity for participants to increase their knowledge on the safe use of technology and where to go for support if needed.

Topics covered will be:

  • How tech savvy are you?
  • Technology facilitated abuse
  • Image-based abuse
  • Safe use of technology – safety tips
  • Social media – private and professional
  • Online shopping
  • Online dating
  • Parenting in the social media age (touches on cyberbullying, grooming, apps, online pornography) and how to report
  • eSafety online resources
  • Where to find support

A 2018 survey of Australian women aged 18-55 conducted for Amnesty International found that: 

  • Three in 10 women (30%) surveyed said that they had experienced online abuse or harassment
  • Nearly half (47%) of those who said they had experienced online abuse were aged 18 to 24
  • 37% of women who had experienced online abuse or harassment said that on at least one occasion, these online experiences made them feel that their physical safety was threatened.
  • Women are twice as likely as men to have their nude/sexual images shared without consent
