Eddie Tsyrlin from The Waterbug Company will help you discover and learn about local aquatic invertebrates living in Maroondah, and contribute to the global City Nature Challenge.

This is one of many nature discovery activities being held in Maroondah designed to encourage participation in the 2022 City Nature Challenge from Friday 29 April to Monday 2 May.

Discover some of the wild plants, animals, and fungi that are found in and around Maroondah. Come prepared with the iNaturalist app downloaded on your smartphone so your observations can be counted towards Maroondah and Greater Melbourne's statistics in the Challenge. 

Please note you may be walking on uneven ground, encounter stinging or biting insects, tripping hazards such as fallen branches and potholes. Please stick to the trails. 

  • Date: Sunday 1 May, 2022
  • Time: 3pm to 5pm
  • Location: Barngeong Reserve/Brushy Creek, Croydon. Meeting point information will be sent following registration.
  • Facilitator: Eddie Tsyrlin (The Waterbug Company - Aquatic invertebrates and aquatic plants)
  • What to bring: Dress for expected weather and wear closed toe footwear. Please bring your smartphone, a copy of The Waterbug Book or ‘The Waterbug App’ installed on your phone (to help with identifications), magnifying lens, head torch, glass jars.

Please note there is a maximum of 25 participants. Please complete a new booking for each participant.

Please note public toilets will be opening at 10am at this location.
